Last week, we began our art unit by painting like Michelangelo. Our Michelangelo paintings are displayed on one of the boards by our classroom. This week, we learned about our second artist, Paul Klee. Paul Klee was a Swiss-German painter who loved color, lines and shapes. He used corners,curved and straight lines as well as many sizes of dots to create his abstract art. After the "art talk" on Paul Klee, the children were motivated to create a Paul Klee painting. First, the children used black crayons to draw their lines, corners,dots and dashes. After completing their drawings, our young artists used watercolor to add depth and excitement to their beautiful pieces of modern art. On Wednesday, the children made a Paul Klee inspired snack. Pretzel sticks became lines and corners, mini chips and raisins became dots and dashes, and graham crackers with cream cheese provided the blank canvas. As you can see from the pictures, art can feed both the soul and the tummy!
